Working women in America today have unlimited career potential, but unfortunately, they also have the same number of hours in the day as everyone else. At the same time, studies show that working women in two-income households still take responsibility for doing a greater amount of housework and childcare tasks than men do. To solve this problem, more and more women are choosing to hire a nanny, instead of running themselves ragged and nagging their husbands endlessly.

?

Finding and hiring a nanny used to be only for the likes of celebrities and the British aristocracy, but no more. Reputable online agencies have opened the market between domestic workers such as nannies, babysitters, housekeepers and cooks, and put them in direct contact with families who wish to employ them. This new trend seems to be here to stay; as online dating sites are triggering relationships that lead to marriages more and more often, online nanny agencies fill a much needed gap in the marketplace.

Using an online nanny agency is simple. A family posts the particulars of the position they need filled, and domestic workers can apply directly for the position. Likewise, the family can enter very specific search criteria and be matched with compatible candidates, whom they can contact with a potential job offer.? After that, it is up to the two parties meet for interviews and negotiate contracts. While it does make for a little more work for both parties, the family benefits by paying a far lower price to use the online agency than they would for a ?bricks and mortar? company. Likewise, an online agency may have a larger pool of candidates, rather than a local company who specializes in a specific geographical area.

Still, it is important to be diligent about doing your interviewing ?homework. If you are doing the interviews entirely by yourself, be sure to observe all the normal safety precautions you would in any situation involving the safety of your home, your children, and you. You may wish to consider setting up an email address solely devoted to your search, and perhaps even a Google Voice telephone number, with which you can receive messages, instead of advertising your own name and private telephone number. In addition, be sure to set up your first and possibly even second interview with a candidate in a public place, instead of inviting them immediately to your home. Let the candidates know that you expect them to have a clear background check and that you will reserve the right to administer random drug tests if you so choose. If a candidate balks at these two requirements, terminate the interview immediately and don't look back. You have just saved your family and the candidate from a lot of hassle and heartache.

Bringing a nanny into the home is both a financial and a psychological commitment, as bringing any new member into a household will affect its dynamics. However, if the match is a good one, it can also lead to far greater marital and domestic harmony, which benefits the adults as much as the children. The parents will be less stressed, knowing the children are being well looked after and the household kept clean, safe, and welcoming. Likewise, a nanny may find the working environment ideal for her, as it allows flexibility, intimacy, and autonomy.
